Some Portage la Prairie youth are heading overseas next month for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

"Three years ago the Army Cadet League of Manitoba put together an initiative to send 100 cadets to Vimy for the 100th anniversary," says 19 Portage Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps current commanding officer Captain Terrence Henry. "The Portage Army Cadets took on this challenge and we fund-raised for the last two years for four of these cadets to go. And graciously in these last couple of months, there was another large donation from the province, We're sending five in total right here from Portage."

Henry says they're taking a footsteps tour whereby they'll trace the route the original Manitoban soldiers took. They'll fly to London, cross the channel and eventually make their way to the monument in Vimy. Their flight leaves May 15th and they'll return home on the 29th.
