The Portage la Prairie School Division is saying farewell to their RCMP Liaison.

Constable Amber Storey if officially leaving the Portage la Prairie area for bigger and better things just a short drive to the West in Brandon, Manitoba.

"It's been really good, and totally flown by," says Storey. "They've kept me busy and gainfully employed. I've met a lot of great administrators, educators, educational assistants, and I can't say enough great things about them. They have a tough job to do, and they all do it very well with the best interests of the students always in mind. Sometimes it's just nice to have the RCMP presence to get the kids familiar with the RCMP and to have a working relationship with them."

Storey's been in the position for a little under two years. School board chair Murray McLenehan says she's really been an amazing asset to the division.

"The City, municipality, and the Division stuck with this program, and it's been such a benefit. The contacts she has within the detachment and the division was great because she'd bring them out to speak to the children. Also, she has a strong personality, a strong character, and she's a very nice person too. It just makes all the difference when you have an RCMP officer that's approachable and someone you can respect and look up to."

McLenehan adds it's a sad time to see Storey go but they wish her the very best.
