Students returning to school within the Pine Creek School Division will notice a number of changes when they return in a few weeks. That's from Superintendent Brian Gouriluk, who notes their staff have been doing renovations and significant improvements to their schools over the summer. To address the growing inclusion of technology, servers at Gladstone and MacGregor Elementary have been replaced, and the Division's also improved the bandwidth at William Morton Collegiate, and MacGregor Collegiate.

Some of the biggest changes in the Division have occurred at MCI, where Gouriluk explains they've been able to complete projects over the summer that have been discussed for quite some time.

"Over the summer a fitness room has been worked on, and students will have access to the fitness room beginning this school year. As well, the foods lab that has been planned for the last two years, renovations have taken place over the summer and students will have the foods lab available at the start of the school year."

It's not just the facilities that will see changes this coming school year, as they've also seen some changes to their staff. Gouriluk notes they've hired several new teachers, as well as shifted some of their principals. Kyle McKinstry, who was with Austin Elementary, is taking on the principal's role at MCI. Meanwhile, former resource teacher Kim Young will take over as principal in Austin. Gouriluk says it's not unusual to see some shifts in staffing from year to year.

"Every year we have a little bit of transition, and this is a part of that ongoing transition. It's stable, it's amount of change that's manageable and brings both challenges and excitement into the classrooms and the schools."'

The first day of school in Pine Creek School Division is September 7th.
