The Portage Friendship Centre's hoping to raise some funds for their after school program. They're holding a fundraising indoor garage sale Friday, featuring a silent auction and 50/50. Parent Child Coordinator Rochelle Campbell says the program's funded solely by local business sponsors and fundraising initiatives, so the garage sale's an important way to raise funding for the initiative. Campbell explains the program focuses on promoting physical activity and health lifestyles, and notes that requires some funding.

"It's a learning process for them to have physical activity every day, and to make better choices. For us to be able to do that we need groceries, and outdoor playsets for soccer and baseball, which are very limited at this point."

While the funds raised through the garage sale go to support the after school program, Campbell says the youth also work alongside her for the fundraising initiatives.

"I'm very excited, the kids get involved and learn the procedures of fundraising. They're also excited for the day to come."

The garage sale takes place at the Portage Friendship Centre between 10 am and 2:30 pm. All of the items sold at the garage sale have been donated by the community, and Campbell says they have everything from in-line skates to outdoor decorations.
