A 66-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries, following a collision outside of the Provincial Building in Portage la Prairie. The RCMP was called just before noon today, after a 77-year-old man had reversed his Dodge Caravan, and struck the 66-year-old maintenance worker. RCMP spokesperson Constable Holly Plato says the man was immediately transferred to hospital, adding no charges will be laid as a result of the incident.

The initial investigation revealed the 66-year-old was working close to the ground and wasn't visible to the driver of the van. Plato says the officer on scene actually got inside the van and determined it would have been near impossible to see the man who was working on the ground.
