Volunteers of the Portage and District Arts Centre were celebrated yesterday evening.

Executive Director Paul Legris says they have a lot of great people that help the Centre out, and a couple of special guests as well.

"We have an Installation Committee, we have an Exhibits Committee, we have countless volunteers that help us keep this place running and provide a face. It's also for the numerous board members that are here as well. So we just give a thank-you to everyone that helps, but also those who've dedicated their time to present beautiful gardens in the area that are now part of this tour."

Gardeners Yvette Cuthbert and Murray McDougall both attended the dinner. Cuthbert says finishing their garden wasn't an easy job.

"Well yeah, but that's what retirement is all about, doing the things you love." she laughed. "So we even made his raised garden bed. When I bought the place 7 years ago it was mainly all just dirt, so it's been a huge change."

McDougall says the PDAC was a big help during the tour as well.

"We had another function and couldn't be at our own home, and they had some body come that knows a lot about plants to explain to people about the different types of plants. It was really nice."

Legris adds they had a great pizza dinner with drinks.
