It's been somewhat of a whirlwind, and it's sad to leave Portage la Prairie. That's from the Portage and District Arts Centre (PDAC) executive director Paul Legris on the last day of his current role at the Centre before he heads out to Winnipeg. Legris says he'll be working for Heritage Canada there, and compares his new chapter in life with what he's done here.

"Actually it's just very different," explains Legris. "It's a different kind of responsibility. It's largely planning the design for interpretation and exhibits for the National Museum in Winnipeg -- The Canadian Museum for Human Rights."

His background for the last 25 years has been the design of exhibits for museums in both Canada and the United States as well as abroad. It's more in line with what he's done in the past, but he's also spent many years in cultural organizations like PDAC through programming, raising funds and writing for grants. He has many years of experience in the type of responsibilities PDAC requires, but planning for exhibits is more true to his heart.

Legris says it's been less than a year since he first came onboard, and it's good to have been part of Portage. He notes he's experienced a lot of activity, programs, and work. Legris explains the position he's moving into is something quite significant that he really couldn't turn down. So, it's sad to leave here but he's confident the PDAC will easily find someone to fill the shoes and maintain the same momentum.
