The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation's holding a community consultation open forum tonight.

"Essentially it's just an open house with a focused group-style discussion," says Stefanie McKim, community engagement coordinator. "Data collected from this discussion is going to help us as we draw to the close of completing our community consultation survey."

She explains they'll lead those of you who attend in a discussion about future possibilities for Portage, and how the PCRC can collaborate with other groups to bring them to fruition, or engage the public to make them a reality. McKim adds they are listening and want to hear from you.

McKim notes a community consultation is required every few years. The last time one was held was five years ago. A survey's circulated along with the forum, and now is the time to let your voice be heard if you have ideas or suggestive criticisms. McKim says this is the platform for your ideas.

The previous survey was made in 2013 and saw a lot of discussion about child care and transportation. But McKim says the PCRC shifted away from those things this time around since those efforts have been adopted by other groups or movements.

Topics in the survey include access to mental health support and to healthy food, as well as affording healthy food. Accessing safe and good living conditions is also something they want to hear from you about, as well as how to engage the youth, and what you want to see happen for youth and seniors.

The forum starts at 6:00 p.m. tonight at the Portage Regional Library.
