The PCRC held their first ever swapping mall and Christmas market yesterday at La Verendrye School.

The swapping mall allowed people to bring in items which they could then swap for new things. PCRC community engagement coordinator Stefanie McKim explains they usually host community events and activities, such as gym nights or crafting sessions, but decided to try something different, she explains why.

"We decided that we wanted to spread a little holiday cheer and bring some shopping closer to those who may not have transportation to get down to the shopping [centres]. So this is the first time we have done something like this and I can say right now we already have ideas for it to grow for next year."

McKim says they had a great response, noting only a half hour into the event close to 100 swap tickets had already been issued. She was pleased with how many people turned out despite the cold weather.

"We're really, really excited to see everybody here and to see all the donations. We see some kids who are able to shop for mom or dad and we've got a wrapping station over here and they're on the lookout while their present gets wrapped so they can go home with a surprise for mom or dad and that's really quite special for us to see."

Local vendors were also present at the Christmas market, where all items were on sale for ten dollars or less.
