The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation has been working with local schools and organisations over the past month on their annual beautification efforts. PCRC Community Engagement Coordinator Stefanie McKim says this year has been their most successful so far.

"We have 1,700 people registered to do clean-up and that has been over the past week and into next week. We wanted to give people a really good range of time to complete a clean-up just because the weather can be so unpredictable in April. So, we're really, really excited to see that kind of participation."

McKim says this year they've been sponsored by Take Pride Winnipeg, an organisation which does a lot of work with beautification and going green efforts, and they have received plenty of products to help with this year's clean-up. She notes there is still lots of time for people interested in conducting their own clean-up to pick up clean-up kits from the PCRC.

McKim shares details on one of the contests they're currently running for those working on beautification projects.

"We have a contest going on where you can win a $100 Rona gift card if you conduct a beautification project. You just have to send a picture and a few details to my email address; s.mckim@portagecrc.com. All that information is, of course, on our Facebook page as well."

With today being Earth Day, the PCRC, along with the Chamber of Commerce, has partnered with the Portage Recycling Depot at the Home and Business Expo to collect small electronics and plastic grocery bags to be recycled. McKim encourages everyone to come out, noting they will have some canvas tote bags and other giveaways to reward people for their efforts to go green.
