Manitoba's first bill including coverage of social media was introduced last week.

Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart says they've introduced stronger sexual violence legislation for students across Manitoba.

"It's about safety and security on campus for students, and it covers all the campus' in Manitoba -- even some of the private schools. We think it's very significant, and it also talks about social media, which we've never had a bill in Manitoba before that's touched on that. I think it's very important, with how things are trending in social media, so it's important that we provide some level of protection there as well."

Wishart explains it's going to cover a lot of students.

"All of the post secondary and Private schools as well, something like Robertson College and some of the others that have top courses in different parts of the province at different times are all covered by this. They're all responsible for making sure that any, if there is, any issues that they're properly reported and made public."

He explains there hasn't been anything too serious in Manitoba, and this bill should ensure we don't.

"Certainly there's been a few, Manitoba's only had the one issue at Brandon University sometime back that was relatively minor. But there has been cases across Canada where there's been college hazing -- and things like that -- that have gotten out of hand. So we wanted to make sure that there was something in place to make sure that did not happen."

He adds it's the first bill in Manitoba to include articles about social media, something he feels needed to be addressed.
