A 23-year-old man from the Gladstone area was killed after a head-on collision with a semi-truck yesterday afternoon on Highway 16, close to Road 54 west, the RCMP says.

Members of the Amaranth RCMP detachment responded to an accident call at 1:22 p.m. Sunday. A black Ford Windstar travelling southeast on Highway 16 collided with a semi pulling two trailers travelling northwest. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries, while a passenger was transported to Portage Hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries. The man driving the van was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 16 was closed over four hours as an RCMP Forensic Reconstructionist investigated the collision and crews cleared debris.

The investigation is ongoing.
