The Municipality of North Norfolk council is discussing the possibility of creating an award for the person who contributes the most to its communities.

"A councillor from ward three has come up with an idea about an Outstanding Citizen Award," says Mayor Neil Christoffersen. "He brought it forward to council and we're talking about it. I don't know if this happens in other municipalities or not."

He says the councillor's seeking feedback from the municipality to determine whether or not people want an organization formed for the project comprised of a council member and volunteer group members. Christoffersen says the goal is to honour the individual or group who contributes most to the quality of life in North Norfolk, and they'll determine the criteria for what constitutes the outstanding contributions. The idea's tabled for a month for consideration at their next meeting.
