The BDO Centre in Portage la Prairie's new speaker system is officially set up and ready for the 2016-17 season.

Centennial Community Club President Shane Moffat gives an outline on some of the new features.

"We've got a wireless mic now, we can walk around the arena and announce goals, or talk to people. We've got 5 speakers in the stands, and 3 speakers on the south wall strictly for music. When you announce goals, you can hear it in the lobby system now. So it's just a great, great asset to our BDO Centre, and I think the people will be excited."

Moffat says it would've never happened without a generous donation.

"I have to thank the Portage Rotary Club for coming forward and giving a $6,100 donation. It's huge, not only for the BDO Centre, but for the community as a whole. We have our provincial teams play out of here, the boy's and girl's and boy's midget AAA teams. This is their home rink, they play 90% of their games here, and with an up to date sound system in here it's just going to be unreal in here next year, and it'll be a huge boost to their hockey program."

The speaker system is all wired into the roof and walls, and Moffat's confident they'll remain where they are for a long time.
