The RM of West Interlake has a new EMO Coordinator in place.

"This is not a new position," says Deputy Reeve John Wainwright, Deputy Reeve. " We used to have this position split between both communities, but now we've hired one person for the whole of West Interlake. Neil Thage will be in charge if there is a disaster, like flooding or those kinds of things, and he'll be the person who people will call when there's a natural disaster. Local flooding is still on the RM, but if the lake comes up and we have major flooding this spring, he's the guy who's going to look after that."

John Wainwright

Wainwright says Thage is currently updating the plan for both communities so if a natural disaster does occur in the community they can find out where to call for equipment, Blue Cross, where there is a disaster, community halls and that sort of thing.

"He's from Ashern, so Neil will be the perfect person for the job because he's worked for highways, and understands a lot of the issues around both communities," adds Wainwright. "He's semi-retired now and has some spare time and wants to do things. He's got a vast knowledge and will be very helpful to all of us."
