The Chamber of Commerce is organizing a new event in conjunction with the annual Ag Appreciation Night, and it's called the Agriculture Awareness Expo.

It'll be at the MNP Building on Saturday, February 4th, and Executive Director Cindy McDonald explains explains what it's about.

"We thought 'let's have something where people can come, and see all the different aspects of agriculture', and it' so important to our local economy. So, we decided let's bring some organizations, let's offer tables to people that have home-grown ag products, even to ag-businesses, so they can get out in front of the public. There are so many different to components to that day. It's free to attend."

McDonald stresses education's a key component.

"The University of Manitoba's going to be there, with students, talking about all the different careers in agriculture -- probably some careers people have no idea about. Showing how crops are used for food and non-food uses. I think it's so important that people understand how much it contributes to our daily lives."

McDonald's excited about the Home Grown Ag Product Showcase as well.

"We thought let's give an opportunity to people that either have a product grown in Manitoba, or a part that is made from Manitoba products, to come to the Expo, to get exposure to the public. It's a great opportunity for those people growing products right here in Manitoba that a lot of people don't know you can buy right from the source. So, we're really excited about that."

She urges anyone with a product to be part of the Expo. The booking deadline is January 27th. Here's more, including the registration information.
