Wednesday, April 19th is National Canada Film Day 150 and the Portage la Prairie Regional Library is will be holding a Canadian film night in celebration.

Library program coordinator Lori Mackedenski explains more about the film day.

"What it is, is it's a celebration of Canadian films, it's a one-day film festival all across Canada. It is put on primarily by Real Canada which is a non-profit organisation out of Toronto, and also various sponsoring organisations, to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday."

Various organisations across the country have the opportunity to show a Canadian film in their community and Mackedenski notes the library will be showing Sleeping Giant, directed by Andrew Cividino. She explains why she chose this film from the 150 options.

"It is set in Thunder Bay. I chose it sort of because of the geographical location, I know we've got some people that have cottages in and around Kenora, Thunder Bay area. So it's kind of geographically close to us. Also, it never played in Portage and we don't have it for rent in the library. I remember reading a review on it in the newspaper and it's supposed to be quite a good film so I'm very excited to be showing this one."

The movie night is a free event but registration is required and those attending must be at least 16 years of age. There will be door prizes and popcorn at the movie night. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins at 7:00.
