Recycling's being expanded in the Municipality of Norfolk Treherne.

"We made a decision in council to include the areas of Rathwell and Lavenham in our present pickup recycling program that we run through Portage Recycling," explains reeve Craig Spencer. "So, we're having meetings in both of those communities."

"On March the 20th we're having a meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Rathwell and on the 27th in Lavenham at the same time to discuss with the residents what this program entails," he continues. "We have this program running in Treherne at this time, and we want to include these folks so they can have their recyclables picked up at the end of their driveways starting in April."

Spencer says the Municipality's almost at a break-even point with their program, and with more input from Rathwell and Lavenham together with Treherne they can make that point by this year. He adds they're taking that much garbage out of the garbage disposal system and putting it in recyclables without costing ratepayers anything, and actually saving money by transporting it to the Portage location.

Spencer says Rathwell's always been the leader in recyclables after having built a shed there many years ago, and having recycled for quite some time. He says he feels people will accept the system, noting it's a convenience to have blue boxes and just take them to the end of your lane or driveway.

He adds, "I think the upkeep and the take-up will be large."
