There's no longer concern of a possible mumps outbreak at a Portage la Prairie elementary school.

A suspected case of the virus was reported at Yellowquill School last week. Portage la Prairie School Division superintendent Todd Cuddington says administration was informed Tuesday the student's tests came back negative for mumps.

"At this time the school is not concerned of a mumps outbreak," Cuddington says. "We will obviously be monitoring it closely to see if anything else should arise. But, as far as we're concerned, there are no suspected cases at all at this time."

The Portage la Prairie School Division advises all parents to follow the recommendations of the Manitoba Health regarding immunization for children. More information is available here.
