A decades-old tradition in Stonewall's coming to a sad halt this year. Mayor Lockie McLean says the community's been removed from the Biking to the Viking ride.

"For many, many years -- decades -- we always celebrated being a part of the MS Bike Ride from Stonewall to Gimli," says McLean. "They call it Biking to the Viking. It was a weekend return trip that kicked off on a Saturday in August. We received a note from the MS Society saying that they're no longer going to start it in Stonewall."

McLean says it's sad to see the change, noting many hundreds of people always turned up in Stonewall to begin the ride, and several Stonewall volunteers were always involved. He adds the event will remain a two-day ride but will now begin and end in Gimli. McLean says Stonewall really felt a part of the MS bike ride. He explains the MS Society informed them that the change came about due to the desire to save costs and make it safer on the roads for the cyclists involved.
