The Town of Stonewall's looking for options regarding the permanent residents in the campground.

Mayor Lockie McLean says there are a number of permanent residents that are looking to move out of the campground, and he explains the issue.

"A handful of years ago we changed the bylaw for our campgrounds because a lot of the policies needed revamping. One of the things we did was we made a policy that when someone moves out of our campgrounds in Stonewall, the people have to just remove their trailer, clean up the site and then we'd take people from the waiting list to fill the site that was vacant."

McLean says some of the campers with permanent sites are getting a bit older and want to sell their trailers instead of having to take them off the lot.

"The folks in the campgrounds have come out, some of them have some nice trailers and campsites and the grounds are beautiful, and they're asking why they can't sell the beautiful premises that we've built to someone that's waiting on the waiting list. One of our councillors is in charge of the campgrounds and the parks, so he stepped up and he's going to get together with the administration to take a look at the policy, then he'll come back to council with his plans."

He notes there are two sides to the argument.

"The town of Stonewall owns the campsites, so the campers lease the site from the town. There's really two sides to the issue; one side is that some of the sites are older and run down a little bit, so you want them cleaned up and you want the renewal of new trailers coming in, the other side is that there are some sites that aren't run down and it's just the people that are getting older and they want an exit, so why can't we look at that?"
