Macgregor Collegiate Institute's new principal is looking forward to the start of the school year. Kyle McKinstry's been named to the position, after serving as principal at Austin Elementary School. He's been involved with education for the past 15 years and says he's proud to be working with those at MCI, describing the staff at the facility as amazing. McKinstry says he's looking forward to the start of the school year, especially with some of the new things introduced at MCI this year.

"I'm very excited. We're looking to roll out our brand new, newly-renovated foods lab. We also have a new fitness centre opening up at the start of the school year, so we're very excited about the new school year starting."

He's looking forward to working at the high school level, after working in the division's elementary school. He became principal of Austin Elementary, after working in Macgregor's elementary school. He says taking on this new role has been something he's been preparing for over his 15-year career in education.

"I've been taking on roles such as being a part of the provincial executive of the Manitoba Teachers Society, working with teachers and students. I progressed from there to be the administrator at Austin Elementary School -- a very vibrant and proactive school-- and now I've moved to the high school where we continue to look to move forward, and try all sorts of new and innovative things at the high school level."

McKinstry says MCI has a vibrant staff and student population that he's looking forward to working with into the future. He also notes the parents are major contributors to the school's culture, describing their commitment to improving the school's endeavours as second to none.
