Portage la Prairie athletes are headed to Steinbach for tonight's Opening Ceremonies for the 2016 Powersmart Manitoba Summer Games.

Special Events Manager for Sport Manitoba Suzanne St. Onge gives an outline of what's happening tonight.

"It's the Opening Ceremonies for the 2016 Powersmart Manitoba Summer Games in Steinbach, and it's a free event! So we're encouraging everyone to bring out their lawn chairs, and join us for the Opening Ceremonies at 8:30 p.m. in the football field behind Steinbach Regional Secondary School."

She says they always like to make it a big event.

"We're going to transform that space into giant party, so we can cheer on the athletes from all over the Province as they prepare to compete in 12 different sports. The more (people) the merrier to cheer on these athletes, and see the spectacular local talent that we're going to be showcasing at this event as well."

The Central Region is well represented at the Games. The events begin tomorrow with golf at 8:30 a.m., athletics begins at 9:30, the Central Boy's Basketball team goes at 12:45 against Winnipeg Blue, The girls go at 2:30 against Eastman.
