It's year of transition for the former assistant superintendent of the Portage la Prairie School Division. Mike Mauws participated in his final board meeting Thursday night and shares what it feels like to leave the position.

"It's been a very interesting twenty-seven and a half years in the division. Mrs. (Pam) Garnham and myself have been working closely over the last two months, and especially over the last couple of weeks. I think the transition has gone very well. The division is in very good shape. We're all set to go."

As for his future, Mauws says he plans to enjoy some time off and figure out his next step, while also watching how things turn out. He notes there aren't any specific plans for that right now. Mauws sums up his career with the division as something he's very grateful for. He adds he's appreciated his work with dedicated professional teachers, educational systems, and everyone in the division.

"It's been a wonderful experience and I enjoyed it immensely," he adds.
