Saturday, March 4, is the International World Day of Prayer, and Portage la Prairie's holding a special time of worship. The event takes place at Good Shepherd Church. Agnes Morgan is part of the effort and explains its history.

"World Day of Prayer was started by women," says Morgan. "According to what I read, in 1921 women got together from the U.S. with women from Toronto churches to talk about starting a worship that can be international."

She says the value of the Day of Prayer is the connection it provides with people in other nations, especially in third world countries, giving them an awareness that there are others who care about their struggles.

It all takes place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Morgan notes Filipino residents are involved this year and have entitled the theme "Am I Being Unfair to You?" It's open for everyone, not just Christians, as a way of letting those around the world know we're here for them.
