Serving up pancakes since 1990.

The annual Gimli New Horizons 55+ Activity Centre pancake breakfast was held this past long weekend as part of the Icelandic Festival in Gimli.

President of the Centre, Cindy Stewart says they've consistently had more than a thousand people show up to support the breakfast, with just under 1,700 coming out in 2018.

She says the funds raised go toward maintaining their facility and maintaining their programming.

"We have yoga, so they need yoga mats and blocks. We have a large floor curling [group] and [we need] the wax," says Stewart. "We've got two large TVs that our aerobics and Fit N' Fun use. It just goes on and on."

Stewart says they enjoy both serving the breakfast and serving the seniors in the community.

"We are a Seniors Centre, and it gets people out and it keeps them active," says Stewart. "We've got so many different activities right from painting to dance to bowling," says Stewart. "Over 30 activities that we do."

She is thankful to everyone who came out to support the breakfast this year, and also to those who support the centre every year, which helps them keep going.

"A lot of our members have lost spouses and this is a place they can come to, and everyone's welcome," says Stewart. "It keeps people connected, whether it's recreation, relaxation, companionship, and then maintaining their own physical and mental health. We even have a bereavement group that we run."
