Politicians descend on Winnipeg today as Manitoba Legislature resumes.

Portage la Prairie MLA Ian Wishart says it's been a while since their first throne speech, and he's looking forward to today's.

"We had done one throne speech before but it was sort of rushed with little time to prepare. This time we're doing a throne speech that we've had time to get our heads around, and I'm sure many people will be happy with what they hear. It'll be able to show our future intentions on what our priorities will be going into the future."

Wishart outlines a couple of their key focuses.

"There's a number of priorities I know in education we'll certainly be looking at. One of our big focuses is improving literacy and numeracy, and it'll be one of the areas we're putting a lot of focus on. So there will be some opportunities in regards to that, but I think you'll be happy with what you hear."

He says there's a rare opportunity coming up for you to see the Legislative Building that you shouldn't miss.

"We have an open house coming up at the Legislature on December 3rd from 1-3 p.m. It's something that's done annually but I would encourage people in the Portage area to come in if they have time. It's a lovely legislative building and it's one of the few opportunities to get a real good look at it."

Wishart feels everyone will be happy with their priorities and their future intentions with the province.
