Today is Manitoba Day, and it's this province's 146th birthday.

It's also the official opening of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum in Austin, and the two events were combined as usual at a flag raising ceremony this morning.

Municipality of North Norfolk Mayor Neil Christoffersen feels it's important for everyone in the province to mark Manitoba Day, and especially for him, as an elected official.

"And make an example to say that it is important for Manitobans to celebrate Manitoba day, and not just at the museum, which is important as a cultural and tourism area for our municipality, but for all Manitobans, because this is one of the last places in Manitoba that celebrates the pioneer ethic."

Museum Executive Director Georgette Hutlet sees this as a great way to start of the museum's season.

"We put the flag up, we have refreshments for our visitors who came out, and it's the opening of the season, so we're looking forward to many more events in the next few months, and a lot of visitors coming through our gates."
