In just under five months, a new country music event's going launch in Portage la Prairie.

It's called Manitoba Country Voice, and one of the organizers is Charlie Brennan. He outlines what it's about.

"It is an amateur talent show for solo country singers, and if the singer doesn't play an instrument, they can bring a person along as a back-up. We hope to get lots of entries, but we want to narrow it down to ten contestants who will compete. Brennan's Bounty's going to be there, and we'll be playing a couple of sets in between, just add a little entertainment to the evening."

Mavis Brennan and Colleen Flynn are also organizing the event. Flynn says she's a country music fan, which is why she got involved.

"Having this event will allow somebody who hasn't had the opportunity to play with a band, or be on a stage, or perform in front of a larger crowd (to do so). I know that there must be tons of talent out there that we don't know about, haven't even heard. So this is an opportunity for some of those people to come forward and show us what they have."

Charlie Brennan feels it'll be another avenue for up-and-coming performers.

"And I think this a good way to do that. I'd really like to help in that way. They could be playing to a capacity crowd in the Glesby Centre of about 400 people. And they will be judged, hopefully, by Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw from Doc Walker. They've told me they'd love to come out and judge, as long as they're not touring."
