The Manitoba 150 flower bed will finally make its appearance at Island Park.

Portage City Councillor Melissa Draycott outlines the plans following last year's cancellation of the celebration due to COVID-19.

"The city has received $20,000 in Manitoba 150 funding," says Draycott. "and recently used some of that to plant the Manitoba 150 local flower bed at Island Park located between the windmill and the lake."

The province made the decision to postpone the Manitoba 150 events in April of 2020, due to the rising number of cases of COVID-19. The new funding has made it possible for the celebrations to slowly make their way into the province. Draycott describes the Manitoba 150 logo while hinting at other celebrations as well.

"The 150 logo is a red heart with blue tulip bulbs on each side with the entire logo using the official colors of yellow, white, red and blue," explains Draycott. "Other projects for funding that the funding is being used for include streetlight banner downtown, as well as signage for an upcoming business beautification contest."

Draycott adds the beautification contest will be fully explained later in the month and is a partnership between the local Communities In Bloom organization, and the Chamber of Commerce. Planters and benches will also be installed for Manitoba 150.
