The group working towards building two new play structures at MacGregor Elementary School is little closer to making it a reality.

Dupont Pioneer recently made a $2,000 contribution to the playground fundraising committee working towards replacing the 30-year-old play structures at MacGregor Elementary School. Parent Advisory Council chair Darlene Suderman says they've now raised about $40,000. It's expected to cost about $65,000 and the fundraising target is $75,000.

"Our old structures are beyond repair, and any funds we raise go directly towards our project," Suderman says. "Two play structures like this can actually run as high as $130,000. But we are opting to not go with a steel structure and choosing to go with a more natural play structure using wood and composite materials."

Suderman says they began fundraising in May 2015 and hope to hit their target and begin construction by June 2017. She adds they're also in the midst of a 100-day fundraising challenge.

"If we have 100 people each donate 100 dollars, that's $10,000 towards the play structures," she says. "And that would help us a lot."

Suderman notes getting the play structures replaced sooner will be of benefit for the entire community. "It's a popular place to hang out and play. There's kids from all over MacGregor who will be able to use it and benefit from what it has to offer."
