A Conservative MP doesn't think the Liberals' infrastructure bank is going to help rural communities across Canada.

Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen says they're concerned the bank won't help rural communities the way they'll need it. She explains a couple of the details of the project.

"They said they're going to create an infrastructure bank, which may sound okay in principle -- although they haven't really explained how it is going to work -- they're going to be taking 15 billion dollars that was promised to communities for infrastructure projects -- communities like Portage la Prairie and communities in Portage-Lisgar. Now to make matters worse, one of the things we know about the bank is that only projects that are worth $100M or more will qualify to be able to use the money. So most projects in rural Manitoba and rural Canada are not $100M projects, that doesn't make them any less valuable or the support any less needed."

She says rural Canada was always a focus of the Conservatives.

"We had a number of different programs over the previous 9 years where the money would come directly to rural projects. When we announced our infrastructure funding we had a component that was specific for rural communities, it didn't mean they couldn't access the larger amount as well and that was something that MP's worked hard for. We saw a lot of money going into rural communities and much of it had been specifically earmarked for rural communities. We're seeing a complete change from the Liberal government, and even with all of the money they've announced -- and let's keep in mind they've announced a lot of money -- very little of it has gone out and no full-time jobs have been created in the last year, which is concerning. Even with all the money, they're announcing is mostly for large cities like the Toronto's and Vancouver's of Canada."

She adds they'll continue to hold the Liberals accountable for their decisions, and demand answers to the tough questions.
