Boyne Regional Library is busy preparing for it's summer programming.

The Carman based library is doing some renovations on it's building.

Library board chair, Susan Mooney explained they needed to do this expansion because they wanted to make the building more easily accessible to everyone.

Mooney shared the renovations are needed to advance their ability to serve local children.

"The one that we have right now is very small and we have a lot of children coming to the library. There are many programs that are being offered provincially, federally through literacy programming. We can't do the programming because we don't have the space.

Mooney added they have started fundraising; focusing on events, going out to community and applying for grants.

Information on how to donate to this project can be found at the library or on the Boyne regional library website.

Meanwhile, children from Carman, Dufferin, Elm Creek and Roland will participate in this year's summer reading program at Boyne Regional Library.

"It's important that the children read over the summer," said head librarian Sandra Yeo. "The school's are really getting involved in that and they are really encouraging children to participate in the summer reading program. They find if they go back in the fall and have not read over summer, they are that much further behind."

Yeo noted the library received a Healthy Living grant for $1,000 to help bring a number of puppets into the library.

She stated these puppets will help teach children about clean living while incorporating activities.

Yeo said the library is also preparing to host a children's festival for grade 1 to 4 students in Carman elementary school, Elm Creek, and Carman Dufferin Christian school.

Activities being planned are puppet shows, crafts, guest readers, a bug display and more. Yeo anticipates their will be around 364 students in attendance for the event
