The Portage la Prairie Regional Library has kick-started their annual TD Summer Reading Club. Portage Regional Library desk clerk Doris Brooks outlines the program.

"The reading program started approximately a week ago. It's the TD Summer Reading Club that we have here. If you are interested, you come in and we give everybody a log book. In the log book, the children keep track of all of the books they have read."

She outlines the guidelines for the program.

"Only library are eligible for these log books. They will include name and phone number in the log book and you are to use both sides. Each page that is completed receives a small prize. The log book deadline for all prizes is August 20th. We are counting books read, not pages or minutes. "

Brooks notes there are other great perks to being a part of the book club.

"In conjunction with that, Boston Pizza has graciously offered a promotion as well. They have a log and you can enter the amount you have read both in the log book as well as in this form we would give you. If this form is returned by August 20th, there is a free kids meal from the Portage la Prairie Boston Pizza."

She says the book club is a great way for kids to develop a love for books and to keep their brains busy over the summer.
