Housing and jobs for Manitobans are among the concerns the federal Conservative party for 2017. That's from Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen, who says recent Liberal decisions will make it harder for Canadians in general.

"The aerospace industry has been hit particularly hard in Manitoba by some of the recent decisions the Liberals imposed. One is Bill C10, that took the maintenance of Air Canada fleet out of Winnipeg. That hurt a lot of jobs. Also, their decision to not allow competition and to just buy the Super Hornet," Bergen says. "That's had a big effect on the aerospace industry. And there are some other issues surrounding Southport that we're very conscious of."

"It goes right back to what I've been saying for the last year: There's no regional minister in Manitoba. We don't have a Liberal minister who will speak on behalf of Manitobans. I know the provincial PC government is seized with this as well. They're very committed to seeing jobs in the aerospace industry. So, we're going to be working on that issue."

She notes mortgage rules have also been changed by the Liberals, making it harder for first-time buyers. Bergen says many people in the Portage-Lisgar riding will be affected. She adds they'll do their best to encourage the Liberals to adjust legislation so we won't be adversely affected, but will rather benefit from it.
