The RM of Woodlands will soon have many of its homes heated by natural gas. Reeve Trevor King says it's coming into the Town of Woodlands.

"Manitoba Hydro and Centra Gas is going to start running the line from Warren to Woodlands for the new facility that's been built there, to supply that business. They're a farm equipped with natural gas. And then it's going to be extended into the Town of Woodlands, of course. And then some rural area residents and farms along the way. They're underway with that project now. So, we passed it at council from our budget."

He says the plan to extend natural gas into the region has been received quite positively, but he's a bit concerned.

"We're a little bit disappointed. The ones that want to hook up had to sign up ahead of time. I'm kind of concerned. Once it happens, other people are going to wish they had signed on as well. But at that point it's going to cost them themselves, whereas at this point it's all been paid for -- any hookups."

The work's expected to continue until fall. King says it's a big drawing card as it means economic growth within the municipality, seeing as natural gas is also an attractive alternative for heating.
