Keystone Agricultural Producers of Manitoba (KAP) is ecstatic about the amendments being made to legislature focused on protecting farmers and livestock.

President Bill Campbell says it's nice to see the government stepping in to protect those who supply food to the province. He adds Manitobans should always feel confident about where their food comes from, and not have to worry about biosecurity or food safety.

"Our members have heard of concerns and issues about trespassing," explains Campbell. "People not feeling safe on their own property has been one of the issues brought forward and, we have seen in other jurisdictions where biosecurity measures have been breached."

He adds people will no longer be allowed to enter a livestock facility without prior consent, which can stop the possible transmission of diseases that humans may be immune to. Campbell notes it would be very frustrating to go through all of the time and effort to raise healthy animals, only to have someone not meant to be there ruin it for everybody.

"One of the amendments is to make sure that no confrontation takes place," explains Campbell. "I believe that those particular issues are best dealt with by the police."
