Despite last minute participant cancellations due to inclement weather, the Salvation Army Jingle Bell Breakfast went on as scheduled this morning at the Glesby Centre in Portage la Prairie. Major Brenda Coles says the crowd's been steady.

"So far so good. We had to change the day because of school closures tomorrow. It makes you wonder how things are going to go, but the support's been great so far. We've had a couple of schools cancel at the last minute due to school bus problems, but people are pitching in -- piano players, bands, and singalongs -- so that's great."

She notes the toy and non-perishables table is almost full, and they should be able to provide the 600 hampers they planned on. Coles adds she's surprised at the turnout because not so many showed up last year, and they were almost full just before eight o'clock.
