The mayor for the Municipality of North Norfolk says a cleanup initiative for Jackson's Lake is in the works. Neil Christoffersen says the lake, located a few miles south of Sidney, is always a busy place for locals during the summer. He says the lake doesn't have a garbage cleanup system, which is a bit of a problem.

"What we've found is that if there is a pile of garbage, it tends to grow bigger and bigger, but if the garbage is cleaned up regularly, it doesn't seem to accumulate as much. People are a little more hesitant to just throw their garbage down if there isn't any already present."

Christoffersen says the municipality has talked about hiring a local man to clean up at the lake once a week to help keep the garbage levels down.

"Jackson's Lake is a very nice spot in the municipality that's enjoyed by a lot of people for fishing and camping, and garbage is a problem. We don't have a regular garbage pickup service in there, and the municipality has talked about contracting a man from our area that has started a regular garbage pickup cycle for rural people. We've talked to him about including Jackson's Lake in his rounds, once a week. He'd go there and pick up the garbage so that it wont be unsightly."

Christoffersen says although there are no electrical or water hookups at the lake, it's always a busy place during the summer.
