The Portage la Prairie Regional Library will celebrate International Women's Day in a unique way this year. Program Coordinator Lori Mackedenski says last year they showed a film to mark the occasion but this time around they're doing something a bit different. Mackedenski notes they've decided to pull some DVDs which either have strong female characters or stories which encourage discussion around the theme of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th. She says proceeds from those DVD rentals between March 4th and March 11th will be donated to the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre to help support them in the good work they do in our community.

Mackendenski adds people should know that some of the DVDs they have for rent are not necessarily available on Netflix. She says folks might want to come in and check out the movies on offer, noting they can also do a little bit of good toward the community at the same time.
