There are going to be some people picketing at medical service buildings in the Interlake this week.

Interlake Eastern Regional Heath Authority CEO Ron Van-Denakker stresses it's not a strike.

"We've been in conversations with Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU) and what they're wanting to do is they're having information picketing sessions. There's one planned Selkirk Corporate Office today, at Beausejour tomorrow at the health centre, and Gimli on Wednesday. Essentially they're exercising their rights to share information with the public around their points of view of where things are at."

Van Denakker says just a means of passing out information.

"We've had good discussions with them about the fact that it's fine and great, but in no way, shape or form can we have them impeding or impacting patient care or access to the facilities and that's been very much agreed to. So what they're doing is just spending some time sharing information with the general public."

He's confident a deal will be reached soon.

"The bargaining happens at a provincial table. It's really not something that we're involved with, and it's through the union. They're our staff, and we're hopeful that there is an acceptable resolution at the end because our paramedics and other MGEU staff provide really important services to our communities."

Van Denakker says in no way can the picketers impede patient care, or impact access any of the facilities.
