A new edible bean processing facility is hoping to meet with producers and others in the industry this week. Ilta Grain recently opened two new facilities in Manitoba, the first time the company has expanded into this province. The company was started about seven years ago, and Manitoba Operations Manager Dustin Unger says they currently have six locations in Saskatchewan. He notes while Manitoba now has two locations, the main facility is right here in the RM of Portage la Prairie, near the Bloom elevator.

"The one in Portage is an edible bean processing facility that's going to be a state-of-the-art facility for processing and packaging. The Miami station is just a receiving station, so growers don't have to deliver all the way to Portage."

Ilta Grain's operations currently process a variety of crops, including flax, peas, lentils, and rye. Unger says the company is a growing presence in the pulse world, adding the new Manitoba facilities really compliment their other sites.

He's hoping producers will take the opportunity to learn what they're all about, as they host an open house this Friday. Unger says they'll be offering tours of the facility, and hopes to see a good number of people come out for the event.
