The Portage Plains United Way and Portage Rotary Club Home and Away draw is underway. United Way President Sherilyn Knox outlines what it's all about.

"This is our second year of holding the Home and Away Draw, which is a partnership between Portage Plains United Way and the Rotary Club of Portage. We're very excited to be in this partnership again with this community minded organization ourselves, and we're excited to launch today."

Knox outlines the prizes this year.

"We have three great prizes. First prize is a $5,000 Rona gift certificate for the Portage Rona, we have a $2,500 travel certificate from Travel Quest, and then our third prize is a $1,000 cash prize donated by Century 21."

She recounts how the draw turned out last year.

"It was a successful event when it comes to money. Each of our organizations raised a nice sum of money for us ($6,000 each). But also it was a really great partnership, because the Rotary and the United Way are very locally community-minded organizations. So, we felt that this was a great way for us to work together toward community goals. And then we decided to do it again for 2016."

Knox says they couldn't hold the draw without their sponsors: Rona, Travel Quest, and Century 21.

She adds the Portage Plains area has always given support to local organizations. Knox notes the first prize Rona gift certificate can only be used at the local Rona, so she says you know these are local people buying the tickets.

There are only 1,500 tickets, so they'll sell fast. Tickets can be picked up at the Portage Plains United Way office, any of the 50 Rotary members, any of the board of directors of United Way, the Century 21 office, Rona, and also Travel Quest. It's a shorter window to get tickets this year -- only 45 days. And tickets are $20 each.
