It was a special sight for those who made it out to the back of the BDO Centre yesterday in Portage la Prairie, as the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train made its appearance.

Along with a performance from the Odds and Dallas Smith, a $6,000 cheque was presented to the Portage la Prairie Salvation Army. Major Brenda Coles says it's always a special time when the Holiday Train comes to town.

"It's always a lot of fun and (CP) is so generous. $6,000 goes a long way. We also appreciate the emphasis they have on health, and we'll try and use this money to do little projects through the year that kind of stimulate, and promote that amongst the folks that need the food bank"

Coles says it adds to their great totals so far this holiday season.

"The kettles have been doing really well, and the amount of food that has come in is great. So far, so good. People look at the food and think it's a lot, but when you're filling hampers for close to 600 families, it takes a lot of food."
