Take the chance to check out a piece of flight history at Southport this coming week.

The Commemorative Air Force's (CAF) 'Flying Legends of Victory Tour' is in town until Sunday, September 3rd and you'll be able to check out their B-25J the 'Maid in the Shade'.

"The Commemorative Air Force is a national organization that has about 70 units all over the country, and we're one of the largest," says CAF's Mike Meuller. "We have seven aircraft that we offer historic flight experiences in and one of them is the B-25. During the summer we take our two bombers on tour because it's a little hot in Arizona to be flying so we come up here to Canada the weather is a little more pleasant where we can show off the airplanes."

Not only will you get a chance to see the incredible aircraft that actually saw combat in WWII in person, you can also sign up for a flight on the weekend.

"The biggest response we get is people think it's a big plane on the outside, then when they get inside they say it's very cramped," laughs Meuller. "These airplanes were not built for comfort they were built to go out in harm's way. They're very cramped, and it's really enlightening for people to experience what it was like for these young men to climb into these cramped planes, fly at 15 to 20,000 feet with oxygen and it is very cold, and people are shooting at them. So people are always amazed by the size of the planes up close and inside."

The 'Maid in the Shade' flew 15 missions in 1944 out of Corsica, France and you can see the repaired battle damage. It was made in Kansas City along with all other B-25s. If you're interested in booking a ride you can do so online.
