Heartland Family Wellness Centre's first ever Heartland Hike for Health was a huge success. Nearly 40 people were out at Koko Platz Community Club in Portage la Prairie, where the walk took place. Event Coordinator Laura Dyck explains what the event was raising money for.

"Yesterday was our first annual Hike For Health, which raised money for Love Has No Colour as well as the skate park. We just wanted to plan a community event to get everyone out and support the great cause and walk for health. We had a lot of fun and saw a number of families out in costumes, enjoying the snacks. It was a beautiful day for the hike."

Dyck notes the special musical performer they had at the hike.

"Our plan is to make this event an annual thing. We made a song for the hike and Keith Macpherson helped us write it, and yesterday after the hike he performed the song as well as a mini concert."

Over $3,000 was raised for the event.
