A Hall's Beach cabin owner from Portage la Prairie's keeping a close eye on water levels at Lake Manitoba and the Portage Diversion.

"I was hoping that we didn't get as much snow as we normally get," says David Stiegler. "But it is what it is. It seems we get this all the time. But it sure would have been nice if we got the outlets at Lake St. Martin opened up down there. But that's all of the politics involved down there. You would think within the six years since the last flood on Lake Manitoba they would have had something done by now."

Stiegler explains while the military helped at the Hoop and Holler area, nobody in Delta Beach and St. Laurent got any help. He adds about six people at Hall's Beach had to take care of the entire mile long beach by themselves. Stiegler says they're bracing themselves in case they have to see it happen all over again.

"We're up in Hall's Beach," continues Stiegler. "The lands were devastated up there but nothing compared to St. Laurent and Delta Beach. But still, it was impacted quite a bit. In my opinion they probably should have left a little bit more water going through the Hoop and Holler down there. But I guess it's six of one, and half a dozen the other. We probably could take another foot for the Lake (Manitoba). But if it starts getting up to 2011 records, we're just going to be devastated once again. And once again, the government's not doing much about it."
