The fifth annual Portage Friendship Centre's Grandmothers Walk took place today in Portage la Prairie, raising awareness about sexual exploitation of children. Insight Mentor Danielle Carpenter says it's not just grandmothers who are walking.

"We also get our youth involved in these events. There's actually a Stop Sexual Exploitation of Youth awareness week in March. Our youth plan events for that week."

Carpenter notes the groups who took part in the march through the streets of Portage.

"Portage Head Start and our Eagle's Fire. And there are children that are coming from the school that are participating as well."

She share what it means for her to be part of the initiative.

"It's exciting, especially because I wasn't even aware of it. To learn even that it's happening here in our town and everywhere around, it means a lot."

Carpenter notes the march ends with more activities at the Eagle's Fire youth centre.

"There's a feast afterward, too, with soup and bannock, a pipe ceremony, and an open mic. for anyone that wants to ask any questions."
