The first budget meeting of 2017 in the RM of Grahamdale happened recently.

Reeve Clifford Halaburda and councillors from each ward brought a list items for discussion. He says they all know they're facing some budget cuts this year.

"Because I'd certainly like to see a balanced budget this year. We keep everything in low profile, make it fair to our ratepayers," he says, adding, "It's just the first time around, and we don't have to have this in place until May."

Halaburda doesn't know where budget cuts might fall.

"There could some upcoming events that could occur very shortly," he says, "And what I mean by that is now the province of Manitoba is talking about flooding in the Interlake, so that's another part of our budget that we might have to screen out in case of a flood."

He stresses the possibility of a flood this spring could impact everything they do.

"You see, our problem is, the RM of Grahamdale is the bottom end of the water source", he says, "Any water coming from the south, or the west, ot the northwest, from other lakes, all has to pass through our system. This is where we have to be set up, and have things work properly, or else there will be big problems. But," he adds, "We don't know what's going to happen yet."

He says all they can do is sit, and wait it out.
