The Gladstone Legion's holding a fundraiser evening for relief effort in Fort McMurray.

Clubroom manager Dawn Coubrough shares reactions she's been hearing since the event was announced.

"People are pumped. I've heard everything from being so proud that somebody in Manitoba's doing this for Alberta, saying, 'Good for you,' you know. 'It's about time communities did something like this.' So, we're hoping to encourage other communities as well to do the same type of event."

She outlines all that's taking place.

"We have a silent auction, raffle, 50-50 draw with all the proceeds going toward Fort McMurray. Also, a barbecue. We're barbecuing that night and having a nice dinner. $15.00 for the meal, and $5.00 of that is also going to Fort McMurray. And the Legion is matching all the dollars that are raised. So, that's pretty exciting as well."

Coubrough shares what inspired them.

"Of course why we're doing this is they definitely need help, obviously. And now they're dealing with flooding as well. We just feel that as Manitoba's had lots of help in the past with our floods, it's time we paid it back. And as a Legion, and we have a lot of members out there in Legions in Alberta that are suffering. So, we want to do something."

The meal takes place tomorrow, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Clubroom of the Gladstone Legion. Doors open at 3:00 p.m.

Coubrough notes preparations have been made for a month now, and the community's come together in a wonnderful way. She notes there are 27 raffle prizes so far, and six very good silent auction prizes.  Many brought personal donations of prizes and food for the meal. For the short time frame they've had she feels they've done quite well.
